The UP International Spring starts

Dear fellow students,

 

We are happy to announce the biggest event of the year, INTERNATIONAL EVENING 2019!

International Evening is an event created to celebrate the unique diversity at our university. Students from many different nations will present performances and food from their home country.

As always, all the proceeds will be donated to good causes around the city.

This years motto is "Think Globally, Act Locally" to inspire students to live a more green and sustainable lifestyle.

Come celebrate with your friends and enjoy all that the countries have to offer, with great food, amazing performances and additionally live music on the PMS Stage. Later on in the evening you can enjoy our great DJ's at the after party!

 

DRESS CODE:

The dress code is "Elegant/Evening Dress".

Traditional clothing from your home country is also very welcome.

Registration closed on February 24th.

 

WRISTBANDS:

Wristbands will be available about two weeks prior to the event - 1st week: medical students, 2nd week: everyone else. Keep your eyes out for more information following soon.

March 12th. Chinese Evening

15:30 Adrienn Simon: Chinese etiquett – experience of the Chinese social contact
Adrienn Simon is the Senior Consultant and Vice-President of the Hungarian-Chinese Friendship Society. She graduated in Chinese language and literature at Peking University. At the beginning of her career she worked in the field of protocoll at the Embassy of Hungary. Her career as a specialized translator, interpreter and simultaneous translator started here. Nowadays she is one of the most sought after people in this profession. She also worked as a part time teacher at Department of Translation and Interpreting of ELTE University.
In her lecture she tells us about her decades of experience of the unwritten rules of the Chinese social contact.

16:30 Dr. Gergely Horváth: Following the Hungarian scientists in Central Asia
The oasis of Dunhuang was one of the famous places of the Silk Road and near we can find the outstanding memories of the Buddhist art. The lecture first of all presents the natural conditions of the barely known Xinjang, located on the Northwest of China. It presents the natural assets of a spectecular geopark and some cultural memories of the province. Moreover it describes the work of the Hungarian explorers, Lajos Lóczy and Aurél Stein, who had a huge role in the exploration of the Buddhist memories.

Coming all the way from the US just for you, Gergely Vajda will lead the night. Not only is Gergely a master of the conductor’s baton, he’s also pure joy to listen to as he rhapsodizes about the music.
Our orchestra plans to play together with students from the University of Pécs and spend an evening in the best music venue, the Kodály Center! We would like to invite Hungarian and foreign students to join the Pannon Philharmonic and play with the grand orchestra. We will select participants during a preliminary audition, and the audience is also going to be involved in the fun!

March 14th Kobe Evening

International Spring is organized for the third time at the University of Pécs in order to celebrate the diversity of the more than 4000 international students from all over the world. The programme starts with Asia Days, between 11th and 14th.
14th March is dedicated for Korea.
The year of 2019 is very important for the country because it is the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of Korea's provisional government in Shanghai, China in 1919 during Japan's 1910-45 colonial rule. Also, it is the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Hungary and Korea.
On this day, the visitors can try the calligraphy, hanbok, the traditional Korean clothing, can participate in informative lectures, and in the end of the day visitors can enjoy the gayageum concert of Park Minji.
Between 11th and 14th, Korean movie screenings will be held at the Apollo Cinema. ‘I Can Speak’ is about one of the biggest issues in Korea which hasn’t been settled yet. ‘Anarchist from Colony’ and ’The Last Princess’ are based on real people and story, and some characters in ‘Assassination’, the eighth-highest-grossing movie in Korean film history with over 12.7 million admissions, were real Independence activists belonging to the provisional government.
The movies will be presented with original audio and English-Hungarian subtitles. Admission is free, registration is required only for movie screenings.
